In the crucible of 2020's End SARS movement, Nigeria's youth rose up against police brutality, igniting a beacon of political participation that continues to reverberate.

This clay piece, born from the earth, captures the essence of that pivotal moment – a high time for collective action, demand, and participation. Like the high tide that reshapes our shores, this movement swept away apathy, exposing the ripples of discontent and the urgent need for reform.

As the tides of change continue to rise, this artwork embodies the generational shift in Nigeria's political landscape. It represents the confluence of old and young, traditional and modern, as citizens from all walks of life engage in passionate deliberations on governance, choice, and knowledge transfer.

Through this clay testament, I urge viewers to embrace the power of collective participation, to ride the waves of change, and to shape the future of our nation. Let us harness the energy of this high time and high tide to create a more just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria for all.

"High time" is an idiomatic expression that means - a moment of great importance or urgency, a time when action is necessary or overdue and a period of significant change or transformation.
"High time" in this work is used to convey a sense of - urgency, importance and transformation.

"High tide" refers to the highest point of the sea level, typically occurring twice a day, a moment of maximum intensity, activity, or emotion and a peak or climax in a situation or process.

In the context of this work, I use "high tide" to metaphorically describe - the surge of protests and demands for change during the End SARS movement, the peak of collective energy, passion, and engagement among Nigerian youth and the climax of a transformative moment in Nigeria's history while evoking the imagery of powerful waves and currents as well as overflowing energy and emotions.

By juxtaposing "high time" and "high tide," I'm creating a powerful contrast between the urgency of the moment (high time) and the intensity of the collective action (high tide). This contrast highlights the significance of the End SARS movement and the need for sustained collective engagement and participation in shaping Nigeria's future.

The patterns reference the ripple of water as in high tide, the points and textures reference our people and pressure points. The wholesome look is its appearance like our print fabrics. In Yoruba we say "Eniyan l'aso mi" meaning people are my cover, bringing it home for understanding and encouraging collective effort.

The found wood on top is a reference to how we'd often reach for a wood as a tether in water or within a tide but really it is the connection we cultivate within and with ourselves that holds us together.
